Yes, I still have a blog. Yes, I still intend to write. Life gets in the way sometimes, ya know? And nothing is worse than being frustrated, and having that initial frustration cycle into more frustration, until you're caught in a total confusing web of frustration, coming at you like a raging late April snowstorm. Yes, I said late April - seems as if what I've been hearing in my five years in Rochester is about to come true - it does snow in April. And May.
And I know I'm not the only one caught up under an avalanche of frustration. Sometimes the coping mechanisms we have get us through, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes escaping everything works, sometimes leaning on someone else works, sometimes buckling down and attacking the problem or problems work(s), and sometimes none of that works. What to do, what to do?
Keep trying. Keep pushing forward. (Yes, I'm writing this more for myself, vs another self-help kind of post.) Hold on to your roots and find your rocks to hang on to. For me, that's music. And I heard a song this weekend on the radio that struck a chord in me (pun intended), so I'm posting the lyrics here. Maybe I'm getting out of this rut, slowly...this is an older Commodores song (with Lionel Richie) called This Is Your Life.
_________
Do what you wanna do
So much in life to see you through
Be what you wanna be
Be strong and tell the world you're free
So much in life to see you through
Be what you wanna be
Be strong and tell the world you're free
I see the children of the world
Searching to find themselves and who they are
So many roads for them to choose
Searching to find themselves and who they are
So many roads for them to choose
So many ways for them to win or lose
This is your life
This is your life
This is your life
Round and round we go
People come and people go
Love makes the world go round
The game we play is lost and found
We close our minds to what we see
A world of pain and hate and poverty
Somehow we all must find a way
To make this world for all a better place
This is your life
I see you there
Dyin' in your wisdom
Where do you go?
Dyin' in your wisdom
Where do you go?
Tell me, where do you go?
Just see the light
Shine through your window
Why can't you see?
Shine through your window
Why can't you see?
Tell me now, why can't you see?
You're walkin' down
Life's lonesome road
Where do you turn?
Where do you turn?
I'm longin' to see
If your search will find
Peace of mind?
Peace of mind?
If your search will find
Peace of mind?
Peace of mind?
Do what you want
'Cause time is your captain
This is your life
If this is your life
